FANUC America used MODEX 2026 in Atlanta to debut the CRX-30iA, a mobile manipulator that combines a collaborative robot arm with an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) base. The system is designed specifically for warehouse and fulfillment center operations where flexibility and throughput matter equally.
The CRX-30iA pairs FANUC's proven CRX cobot series with a custom-engineered mobile platform capable of navigating dynamic warehouse environments. The robot can autonomously travel between picking stations, packing areas, and loading docks without requiring fixed infrastructure like conveyors or guide rails.
Key Technical Features
What sets the CRX-30iA apart from earlier mobile manipulators is its AI-driven perception stack, which includes three capabilities designed for real-world warehouse complexity:
- Payload estimation: Onboard sensors calculate the weight and center of gravity of each item before the arm attempts a grasp, reducing drop rates and improving cycle times.
- Box-locating vision: A 3D vision system identifies and localizes boxes across cluttered pallets and shelving, even when labels are partially obscured or items are irregularly stacked.
- Barcode decision logic: Integrated barcode and QR scanning allows the robot to read package identifiers in real time and make routing decisions -- sorting items to the correct outbound lane without human intervention.
FANUC reports the CRX-30iA can handle payloads up to 30 kg and operates at speeds sufficient for high-throughput e-commerce fulfillment. The AMR base uses LiDAR-based SLAM navigation and can be integrated with existing warehouse management systems through standard APIs.
At MODEX 2026, the CRX-30iA demonstration showed the robot picking mixed-SKU items from shelving, scanning barcodes, and delivering sorted orders to packing stations in a continuous loop. FANUC highlighted that the system requires no cage or fencing, as the CRX arm's force-limiting sensors meet ISO 15066 safety standards.
Industry Context
The launch comes as warehouse automation demand continues to surge. Robotics 24/7 reported that MODEX 2026 featured more mobile manipulator exhibitors than any previous year, with companies like OMRON, Locus Robotics, and Boston Dynamics also showcasing warehouse-focused robots. The trend reflects a shift from fixed automation to flexible, deployable systems that can adapt as order profiles change.
FANUC has not disclosed pricing for the CRX-30iA but indicated that pilot programs with major 3PL providers will begin in Q3 2026, with general availability expected by early 2027.
What This Means for Robotics Buyers
The CRX-30iA represents a new class of warehouse robot that eliminates the tradeoff between mobility and manipulation. If your operation currently uses separate AMRs for transport and fixed arms for picking, a mobile manipulator could consolidate both functions and reduce equipment costs.
Compare options in our Warehouse Robots and AMR categories to see how the CRX-30iA stacks up against alternatives from other manufacturers. Facilities handling high-mix, variable-volume fulfillment should pay particular attention to mobile manipulators as this category matures rapidly through 2026.
