HRP-4 is a lightweight bipedal humanoid co-developed by Japan's Kawada and AIST, first shown in 2010 at 151cm and just 39kg with 34 degrees of freedom. Low-power sub-80W motors, a 0.5kg per-arm payload and space for a small laptop on its back made it a practical research platform, supported by OpenRTM. It reflects an emphasis on safe, efficient design.
